Stars Go Dark in Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #42

The Green Lantern Corps now enters a new arc in Darkstar Rising. Few issues ago, the Controllers were reintroduced in the series and they captured the Guardians of the Universe. When they failed to eliminate the Guardians, they escaped to Space Sector 0001 and began building their own army... Darkstars.

The issue starts with the Controllers saying that the Green Lantern Corps has held the power for too long and they will match them using the Darkstars. These Darkstars are far more indestructible, more lethal and possess capabilities that can surpass any lantern. Going back to Space Sector Zero, John Stewart and his fellow corpsmen are busy monitoring the whole universe. Somar-Le is talking to Tomar-Tu while still imprisoned ( Tomar-Tu killed a Yellow Lantern when Green Lantern Corps and the Yellow Lanterns are allies) when Hal Jordan arrives at the Sciencells. He soon discovers that Tomar-Tu has gone too far.

The lines used in their conversation were good and you will began to appreciate Robert Venditti's work as a writer. My favorite line would be Hal's explanation about heroes to Somar-Le, "Heroes are just like everyone else. We aren't better people just because we wear a uniform or a ring. And just like everyone else, we get to choose what kind of people we'll be. When we make mistakes-- and we all do-- we can use the experience to make us better".  This issue tackles more on Tomar-Tu's recent action and for him murder is the only justice since the corps can't guarantee that every enemy they captured won't escape and kill again.

Hal and Tomar-Tu are still talking when Darkstar One appeared in his Sciencell. He asks Tomar if he wants to enforce lethal justice with the Darkstars and he said yes. The armor began to merge to his body and POOF! Tomar is now part of the Darkstars! Hal reports to John and they will now hunt Tomar next issue.

Ethan Van Sciver returns in this issue and his artwork is a bit erratic for me. I like how he draws the controllers and the design of Darkstar looks stunning and menacing but some parts of the issue looks flat and character posing looks awkward. I wish they bring back Rafa Sandoval or Brandon Peterson.
